As Cat said, "keep doing what you're doing. It matters". Here's my "hummingbird garden" it didn't really start as a hummingbird garden, but that's what it has become. The hummers, so far, have no complaints.
No, I can imagine they aren't complaining one bit. They really love the Turk's cap. My garden is starting to get a bit messy but all the birds, hummers and butterflies are having their way with it and ultimately that's what matters.

Isn't it wonderful how we attract so many good friends with just a few lovely plants?! And it matters!
