Rain

Rain amounts last weekend (May 16/17) were in the 1" range (some parts of Austin got 2"). The only sucky part was that I had just watered all the plants the day before.

I'm actually commenting on your tip. I live outside Dripping Springs and grew tomatoes for the first time here last year. One end of my tomato row got shade from about 3:00 on. Those tomatoes were the most productive over the summer. Some were sweet 100s and I think one was a Cherokee Purple. I grew them in Earth Boxes. This year I'm growing all my tomatoes where they get shade starting at 3-4P. They are in 15-20 gallon pots or earth boxes and get watered every day. I think I will again be able to harvest tomatoes until I get tired of covering them up for October frosts.
