Front Yard

The front yard, not looking too bad...  Close ups of the flowers to follow throughout the week...

The cats by the berm - one with the lone bluebonnet plant in the front yard - most of the bluebonnets on on the side yard.

Is that an oak tree close to your driveway?

Yes - a Shumard Red Oak. The previous owners planted it, the Bradford Pear, two dwarf crepe myrtles, and 4 red tip photinia in the yard before they moved...well, all that and an entire flat of Asiatic Jasmine...

I don't know if it matters to you, but just in case it does, Austin has some pretty crazy ordinances about tree removal. If you expect there to be a problem with the tree wrecking your driveway or the driveway wrecking the tree in the future, you might want to move it or chop it down before it gets to a size when you need permission from the city to do so. I only bring this up because my in-law's house has 2 gingko trees that are doing very poorly, and one has wrecked the driveway and vice versa. I fear the city won't give me permission to remove them even though they most certainly are a hazard and show signs of considerable root damage. I've heard absolute horror stories about the city not granting permission.

If you already know this, then take it as me venting my fears. It's all kinds of YIPES! WHAT DO I DO?! Do I risk the fine for the better good?? :((((((

Ok, so besides that, your front yard is looking lovely! Sorry for not saying that sooner! The stupid gingko trees are incredibly salient right now, and I would hate to see anyone have to deal with this.

Yeah I know about the City's crazy tree ordinances. That being said, I know if trees aren't doing well and are dying, the city arborist is okay with removal (I guess I should clarify that I've never heard of him having issue with removal of trees that are dying).

In any case, it may be beneficial for you to talk to him just to see what type of problems you may run into - call 311 and ask to talk to one of the arborists (there are a few), but if the operator is all sorts of confused you can just ask for Michael Embesi (em-bee-zee)
