Garden Bloggers Bloom Day

Obviously Hell has frozen over as I am actually posting pictures of things. Things that are blooming. On bloom day.

Peas:

Baby Blue Eyes from Rachel at "In Bloom":

Toadflax in the area where nothing grows. except for Toadflax, poppies and bulbine. But the poppies didn't come back (must not have reseeded themselves) and the bulbine died in the freezes.

Ooo-oo! I love the Baby Blue Eyes and am not familiar with them. Do you have any idea where Rachel found them?

Hey Iris,

I don't know where she found them, but since it was a passalong plant, she probably has more just sitting around at her house. Supposedly they don't like being transplanted so most grow them from seeds, but the one she gave me is obviously blooming which I'm taking as a sign that transplanting went perfectly well.

Hey Katina, your blooms look great! I envy your peas; I planted mine way too late. My passalong baby blues haven't bloomed yet, may have waited to long to transplant, d'oh...

MSS of Zanthan has had Baby Blue Eyes reseed for years - maybe she passed some along to Rachel? They grow in Zilker Park, too.

They're so sweet! And so are your toadflax, Katina. My bulbine also appear to be dead but the iris are starting up and some other stuff has buds. Happy GBBD

Caroline,

I only transplanted the baby blues to a different pot--I'll still have to plant them in the ground somewhere. I only put them in a bigger pot because the one it was in didn't have very much dirt and I was watering it everyday. So more dirt = not having to water every day. yet.

I inherited my baby blue eyes from the previous owner of my house. They're annuals, so catch the seeds after the blooms go. I always kind of miss that step at my house, which is why I went ahead and dug up the little plants I found in the pathway. :) Fortunately, they reseed pretty readily. I think they're great little flowers. I believe MSS@Zanthan has the native variety, but I don't know whether mine are natives.

I got my baby blues from MSS too. She'd dug them up! I plan to collect seeds because I just love them. Have planted some around columbines. Love your toadflax, too. I have the yellow & orange one & it's already coming out like crazy. I spotted a bulbine this week so maybe hang on another week before declaring them gone for good.

Saw a wonderful patch of baby blue eyes yesterday down on the hike and bike trail near where the children feed the ducks. En masse under the trees they look spectacular. I am glad to know they are annuals because I will be on a seed collecting mission later in the year. I would love to have some in my shady places.
