Bluebonnet Watch 2012
I have about a dozen bluebonnets that are coming up this year. Of course, since most of them are in the lawn, I have to protect them from my mower-wielding husband. This last weekend, my method included pulling up all of the little flags that were used for marking the utilities in the yard back in October, and placing a flag next to each plant. The husband didn't notice the plants, but he at least mowed up to and stopped at each flag - thus making it so that the bluebonnets all survived. So now we're on bluebonnet watch to see how many bloom.

I have started seeing bluebonnets blooming here and there along the highways, though mine are not blooming yet at the house.
We are watching for the Bluebonnet's out here in Bastrop with bated breath after the fires ripped across Hwy 71. In normal years there are a lot of Bluebonnets and Indian Paint Brush along the Hwy between Bastop and Smithville.
I'll eagerly await your blooms...I have yet to get them to grow in my own garden ;/
I have my fingers crossed…that the wonderful winter rains will bring us a beautiful display of bluebonnets, along with all the other great Texas wildflowers. I have several large bluebonnets in my garden, but no flowers yet. Here in Houston, I’ve not seen any along the roadways either. It is still a little early. Hopefully, in a few weeks there will be an explosion of color.
@Cat - don't get discouraged. I've been throwing seed out there for 3 years now and this is the first year I have more than 1 coming up.
I'm watching and awaiting blooms in my garden too.
My next door neighbor mowed down a transplanted Silverado Sage last week. I transplanted 2 that grew up in the middle of the yard. It was still small and the weeds had started growing near it and probably obscurred it. Plus he was just trying be nice and mow along where his fence sticks out further than ours on our side of the property. He's a nice guy, but still guys don't look where they are mowing.
